Project Text
After making several sketches on tracing paper of the contour shapes of six to nine objects from color photographs in magazines, at least three must be of food, overlay the tracings into a compact collage that leaves no negative space between them. The composition should look like a puzzle put together. Do not try to construct a narrative but merely fit flat shapes together in the most efficient manner possible. Overlay a new sheet of tracing paper and trace the composition. Disassemble and recompose the composition several time to get several compositions. Crop and frame each composition to achieve a unified pattern across the surface of the framed rectangle. Grid and transfer the best composition to drawing paper. Using the original photographs as a reference render the objects values as accurately as possible. Treat each object independently. Once the value drawing is finished redo the drawing using a quadratic color harmony.
